At 92 Years Strong, Hermann Services Has Deep Roots in the Region
Fred J. Hermann began transporting watermelons for the New Brunswick A&P in 1927 and Hermann Services has been truckin’ ever since. Today, as a fourth generation owned-and-operated warehousing, transportation, and logistics company, Hermann Services has grown into a large local employer with a national reach.
Headquartered in South Brunswick, NJ near Exit 8 on the New Jersey Turnpike, Hermann Services maintains more than 2 million square feet of warehouse space and a “smart” fleet of over 240 tractor-trailers supported by two fleet maintenance shops. It’s an operation that requires team of skilled logistics specialists working closely together. With operations in NJ, DE, PA, MD, NC, LA, TX and CA Hermann can reach any part in the US and Canada.
In total Hermann employs more than 300 employees, nearly half of whom have worked with the company for over five years and many who have served the company for more than twenty years. Jeffrey M. Hermann, CEO, attributes the long employment tenures to a family-like work environment that the company offers.
“Our open door management policy facilitates quick, collaborative problem solving, which helps us thrive in the fast-paced supply chain business,” he says. “People who carry on our family tradition of providing superior service backed by hard work, accountability, and mutual respect can get ahead in our company.”
Other multi-generational family relationships run throughout the organization and its history, which benefits the company in many ways according to Jeff Hermann, “There is a strong sense camaraderie at our company where everyone has the opportunity to provide input and feedback,” he says. “We all share a strong desire to pull together as a team and go the extra mile for our customers.”
“As an area employer, Hermann Services also shares a strong sense of community,” Jeff adds. “We take pride not only in providing jobs, but also in supporting organizations that provide assistance to those in our area who can use a helping hand.”
The company recently launched a philanthropical department named “Hermann Cares,” which has rallied much support for such organizations as:
- South Brunswick Food Pantry – Providing healthy meals for those who, for one reason or another, are going without proper food.
- Hugs for Brady — Helping families with children diagnosed with childhood cancers.
- South Brunswick Adopt a Family — Granting wish lists for less fortunate families over the holidays
- National Multiple Sclerosis Society — Raising money through “The Herman Mudsters,” which participates in local MS MuckFest and MS Bike events.
- Toys for Tots — Collecting and distributing new toys to give as Christmas gifts to the less fortunate children in our community.
With strategic company growth plans in the works, Hermann Services looks forward to celebrating our centennial as a good corporate neighbor, employer, and community supporter in the great state of New Jersey.
